Leyva was knocked down twice in Round 5; the first from a right uppercut and the second from an accumulation. Action was paused prior to the start of Round 6 to allow the ringside physician to view Leyva's left eye which suffered a cut. Paredes was warned early in Round 7 for a low blow. A left hook to the body midway through Round 7 put Leyva down for the third time in the bout. He was able to beat the count, but the referee waved off the bout.
