Shane Cameron versus Monte Barrett WBO Oriental and WBO Asia Pacific Regional Heavyweight Title Bout
- Main event of five bout card at Sky City Convention Centre in Auckland. Barrett appeared to win the first round with his left jab. Cameron won rounds 2, 3 and 4 with aggression.
- Biggest win of Shane Cameron's career over the favorite Monte Barrett-moving Cameron up into the top 15 in the Boxrec heavyweight rankings and to WBO # 6 contender.
- Cameron, 34, prepared meticulously for this bout by conducting a training camp in London with former # 1 contender David Haye.
- An upset, as Cameron was the odds underdog in this bout against the 41 year old Barrett, as Barrett had beaten David Tua easily. Barrett was trained by Buddy McGirt.
- Cameron knocked out Barrett with a right hand to the chin. Barrett was also throwing a right at the same time. Cameron got there first.
- Barrett was coming in as he got hit with the punch. His knees buckled as he went down and completely out, perhaps a career ending loss.
- Cameron regains the WBO Oriental and WBO Asia Pacific titles with a fourth round knockout of Monte Barrett, who was defending the belts.
- Previously Cameron was knocked out in 2009 in New Zealand by David Tua in the second round, losing the above WBO regional titles.
- Barrett, a former top rated heavyweight contender, had decisioned David Tua for the WBO Oriental and WBO Asia Pacific titles in August 2011.
