Canzoneri won the second through fifth rounds by wide margins, as he drove Kiser around the ring with a body attack and successful feinting. Kiser had his best rounds in the 6th and 7th rounds, as he momentarily staggered Canzoneri in the 6th round with a right hand to the jaw. After boxing more cautiously in the 8th round, Canzoneri battered a tiring Kiser in the 9th round, whose left eye was now swollen shut. Kiser endured another tough 10th round, but received applause from the fans for sticking out the full ten rounds.
