Harry B. Smith of the San Francisco Chronicle felt that Canzoneri "thoroughly" beat Klick. Smith who had seen the match between the two in Washington, where he judged Klick the winner, felt Canzoneri was far better in this bout. Smith gave Canzoneri every round except the seventh, which he called even. Klick faded as the bout progressed, as he was possibly troubled by Canzoneri's body attack.
