Gavras came out agressively in the 1st round, landing a few blows on Canzoneri's jaw. However, he was floored about a minute into the bout with a right hand, from Canzoneri who appeared to be looking to get a few rounds work in.

In the early moments of the 2nd round, Canzoneri landed a right hand to the head that floored Gavras for a one count. Canzoneri appeared to be easing off his opponent, as he reverted to a defensive shell following the knockdown. Gavras taking advantage of this, attacked Canzoneri and drove him into the ropes, nailing Canzoneri with several blows.

Canzoneri then worked his way off the ropes, and returned fire with right hands, finally nailing Gavras on the jaw, and sending him down face first for the second knockdown of the round. Gavras took the count on one knee, and arose unsteady. Referee Toby Irwin then stopped the contest.
