These two had contractually agreed to meet at 150 pounds. After Gans weighed in at 156, Wells camp threatened to leave town. Gans was compelled by the promoter to go to a turkish bath to sweat off a few pounds, to make the match acceptable to Wells camp. Eventually the two did meet, and put on a terrible bout.
