This was a poor fight, as Gans fought out of a defensive shell for the most part in the bout. Malone was the aggressor in the first three rounds of the bout, until he was hurt by a right to the jaw in the 3rd round. After being hurt by Gans, Malone became much more cautious. The Wilkes-Barre Record felt that Malone had whatever edge there was in the bout, though felt that the decision was fair.
