Dan Biddle versus Pedro Martinez Heavyweight Bout at Bally's (Previously Scheduled For Cruiserweight)
- In the swing bout on an eight bout card at Bally's Hotel and Casino in Atlantic, City, New Jersey, on Saturday, July 7, 2012, Cruiserweight prospect Dan Biddle wrestled and scrapped on the inside for a close majority decision over Pedro Martinez. It occurred Martinez was 218 pounds 48 hours before the scheduled cruiserweight bout, so Biddle, 198 pounds, agreed to fight the bout at heavyweight as Martinez could not make the 200 pound cruiserweight limit. Biddle weighed in at 201 to 210 for Martinez the day before the bout at the official weigh in. Martinez appeared the better boxer during the bout, but he was not in shape. Biddle appeared in top condition and this was the difference, as Biddle was able to move around the ring and land jabs and uppercuts on the inside more than the slow on his feet Martinez, who weighed a bit too much and was heavy on his feet. Biddle held and wrestled the overweight Martinez and smothered him, not allowing him to get away and box on the outside. Biddle's trainer, Tommy Barnes (who formerly trained Martinez) noted Martinez has had conditioning problems his entire career, and Biddle was well-prepared. After the bout, Biddle called out USBA cruiserweight champion Garrett Wilson for a title challenge in the very near future. Garrett Wilson, who knocked out Martinez in the second round in the same ring in 2012, was not present at the card, co-promoted by his promoter Russell Peltz Promotions and Global Boxing (who handled Patrick Majewski in the NABF main event).
