- Explanation: In the era before the bouts went to the scorecards in event of accidental head butt and cut / injury rendered one or ore fighters unable to continue, Ims and Adair collided heads in the fifth round, causing a gaping slice cut above Mims left eyes which was bleeding profusely. Mims was allowed to finish the round. In the next round, Adair succeeded in punching the cuts and match it bleed uncontrollably, forcing the referee to stop the bout. It was the only stoppage loss in the durable Mims career.
- Under the present rules of ABC boxing and the NJSAC, Mims and Adair could have been scored a draw as referee Paul Cavalier had it 2-2-1 and was scoring the bout. The referee no longer scores the bout. However, two ringside judges were also scoring the bout. One would have also had to have scored it a draw on a second scorecard, or the the two judge's card could have been for both Mims and Adair, in order for a draw to result. Under new rules, a technical draw would have resulted if the bout had been stopped before the fourth round began due to the head butt.
