McGowan had a strong 1st round against Wilson, hitting him freely. In the 2nd round, Wilson appeared to wrestle McGowan to the floor during a mixup on the west side of the ring. The referee treated it as a double knockdown, and Wilson was first to his feet; while McGowan took his time and rose after the referee's ten count. McGowan then claimed he had been struck to by a foul blow, though after an examination it was determined there was no foul. Wilson meanwhile, left for the dressing room, and the bout was awarded to Wilson by knockout.
