Duarte and Roper (fighting under the name, Bob Hammond) put up a terrific fight. Duarte was down twice, but from slips and not punches. Both men were busted up, Duarte suffering an eye cut and Hammond suffering a bad nose bleed. Ten amateur 4-rounders completed the program. From the Manila Daily Bulletin. Roper, still fighting as "Bob Hammond," was scheduled to fight Jack Godfrey in Manila on 14 June 1919, but apparently he left the Philippines before that date and did not meet Godfrey.
