Paul Pender 160 lbs beat Jackson Brown 155 lbs by UD in round 10 of 10

Paul Pender, Brookline Mass., won the New England middleweight title with a unanimous decision over Jackson Brown of Boston in a rugged 10 rounder. Pender, 160, was not as sharp as usual but still held a clear edge in the scoring of all three officials. After scoring an eight-count knockdown with a left and right combination to the head in the second round, it appeared Pender would win on an early knockout. But his attack slowed and Brown took the play from him in the middle rounds. Then Pender regained command, however, in the eighth round and dominated the milling thereafter. The Brookline fighter was cut over both eyes but they did not handicap him. Brown bled freely from a cut mouth he received early in the fight. Pender relied almost wholly on his educated left hand, landing in each round with sharp jabs and hooks. The only time he let loose with his right was when he floored Brown in the second.
