Charlie Jerome KO'd In Third At Cincinnati
Cincinnati, Dec 3 - (Associated Press)
Ezzard Charles, Cincinnati's 19-year-old middleweight boxer, chalked up his 50th straight triumph here last night when he knocked out Charlie Jerome of Memphis, Tenn. in the third of a scheduled ten rounds.
The lanky 161-pound student at Woodward High School here, began battling when he was 15 and weighed 126 and he hasn't been on the losing side of a bout since he dropped a close, three round decision in the finals of a regional amateur tournament here in 1937.
In last night's bout, Jerome gave Charles a stiff argument when they tangled at close quarters. Ezzard swiftly changed his tactics to long range punching and put Jerome on the floor twice for nine counts in the second, and finished him with a long right to the chin in the third. Jerome outweighed Charles by nine pounds, coming in at 170.
