Detroiter Signed To Meet Charles - Kozole Unbeaten In Eighteen Bouts

Rudy Kozole, Detroit, was signed yesterday as the opponent for Ezzard Charles, Cincinnati's unbeaten middleweight, for the ten-round feature on the fight show Monday night, May 12, in Music Hall Sports Arena. Kozole also is unbeaten, having won 18 professional bouts. He defeated Gib Jones by a wide margin in a bout here several weeks ago.
Charles was to have met Johnny (Bandit) Romero, but the West coast boxer's poor showing against Anton Christoforidis, light-heavyweight champion, last week caused a switch in opponents.

Ezzard Charles, Cincinnati middleweight, who meets Rudy Kozole, Detroit middleweight, undeteated in 18 professional fights, kicked his sparring partners all over the lot yesterday in three training bouts at the Williams A.C.
Showing form, hitting ability and everything else it takes for a top middleweight, Charles indicates that he will be in a vicious mood Monday night to check Kozole's winning streak.
That the visiting scrapper is no flash in the pan is borne out by the fact that several of the foremost men in boxing in Detroit are behind his campaign.

Ezzard Charles came through with his twenty-second straight win by easily outpointing Rudy Kozole, in a dull ten-rounder. Kozole fought defensively for much of the bout, resorting to holding at the end. Charles was an easy winner.
