After an even first round, Dade piled up a lead through four rounds behind his jab. During an exchange inside, Vergara landed a short right that sent Dade down for a nine-count. Another right hand would send Dade down for a two-count soon after. Dade was able to survive, however, as Vergara became overanxious. In the 6th round, Vergara's first good punch, another right hand, floored Dade for a two-count. Dade rallied to take the 7th, 8th, and 9th rounds, outworking Vergara. In the 10th, Vergara outworked Dade.
