- In a fight far closer than scoring indicated, junior middleweight prospect Frank Galarza has a rough time of it against 4-3 Rigoberto Lopez, who fought an exciting bout and came to win. Lopez kept up a 12 round championship caliber tempo, and tried to cut off the ring with Galarza on the ropes by working the body. Galarza was forced to fight his way of this a number of times, and brought the bout to center ring, where he won five of the six rounds on effective jab combinations thrown and scored as the busier fighter. The bout was far closer than the scoring indicated, and Galarza was able to get inside on the just shorter Lopez and outwork him. Lopez landed some good counters to keep the bout interesting.
