According to the Seattle Times, Miller won the first round. Payne came back to win the next two, scoring a no-count knockdown of Miller in the 3rd round. Miller then won the 4th, with the 5th round being even. Miller won the 6th and 7th rounds; with Miller sustaining a cut nose when Payne's head collided with his nose, and Payne sustaining a cut right eye from a Miller punch. The 8th round was even, Payne took the 9th, and Miller won the 10th round.
"I've never been hit harder" Miller said of the punch that sent him down in the 3rd round.
