Freddie Miller 124 lbs beat Johnny Pena 123 lbs by UD in round 12 of 12

  • Date: 1936-02-18
  • Location: Crystal Pool, Seattle, Washington, USA
  • Referee: Tommy McCarty

Miller "found Pena an easy mark last night for a biting left that opened his face early in the bout and kept the blood flowing for the rest of the session." Twice Referee McCarthy consulted the ringside boxing commissioners about stopping the bout, due to Pena's "cut mouth, mushy nose and battered face," and both times he was ordered to proceed. According to the Seattle Times, Miller refused to give Pena an opening over the first nine rounds, piling up a comfortable lead. The action was not very exciting, as both were booed, and a few fans left the building. In the 10th, Miller began to open up on Pena. He knocked him down for a nine-count in the 11th, and staggered him in the 12th round.
