Dennis Sharpe 159 lbs lost to Doel Carrasquillo 159 lbs by UD in round 6 of 6

Doel Carrasquillo versus Dennis Sharpe Middleweight Bout

  • Opening bout of an annual six bout card promoted by Greg Cohen Promotions at the Hilton Garden Inn on Staten Island

Veteran Doel Carrasquillo, a noted gatekeeper trial horse who's gone the distance with many and knocked out several 'pretenders' with padded records, stepped in as a last minute fighter for Ibahim King, who could not fight as he failed to secure written permission to leave the State of Florida from his parole officer. Carrasquillo gave away the first round to Sharpe to see what he had, in the hopes Sharpe would punch himself out.

Sharpe attacked Carrasquillo on the ropes with body shots to win round one. Carrasquillo landed power shots to head and body from rounds two onward, winning those rounds. Sharpe tried to counter, slipped some punches, took some wicked shots and was surprisingly 'in the house' as he had trained for the bout. A most unique match up, as both gatekeepers had a chance for victory. Sharpe had trained hard for the bout, was in top condition and tried to win. Carrasquillo had gone the distance in five hard fought eight rounders before this bout, had put away Denis Douglin and Shamone Alvarez, and knew where to place his punches to put rounds in the bank. Sharpe avoided Carrasquillo's punching power, never standing in front of him, always moving, and tying him up and holding on when Doel got too close, smart survival tactics which worked. Exciting bout.
