Yuri Foreman versus Gundrick King

Int he walkout bout of a nine bout card promoted by DiBella Entertainment at Roseland Ballroom in New York City broadcast on tape delay on SportsNet, former WBA World Light Middleweight champion Yuri Foreman won a convincing six round decision over former University of North Alabama football player Gundrick King. Foreman did not wear a knee brace on his right knee in this, his second win on the comeback trail, after losing to Pawel Wolak. The objective of this bout seemed to be to test the healed, healthy knee, which Foreman did working in and out side to side with rapid foot speed and hand speed against the touch but limited 5'2 King. The size disparity benefited the 5'11" foreman, as the shorter, slower King had a decent defense but was unable to chase Foreman, a super fast moving target, to put together any punches on consequence. Foreman displayed monster sized football thighs which looked like tree trunks, and Foreman used rapid fire left right jabs and combinations, with occasional body work, to win every round. King landed some counters and as such was always 'in the house', but it became clear King's losses stem not from lack of ability, but for being unable to overcome reach and height disadvantage despite his hard work. Both fighters in top shape.

  • Foreman rose to 30-2 with eight knockouts, while King fell to 18-10 with 11 knockouts.
  • Foreman stated after this bout in the post fighter interview his next bout would 'step up' to an eight or ten rounder.
  • Foreman's previously injured problematic right knee looked completely healthy for the first time in two years, his leg movement was fine.
