Tommy Rainone versus James Winchester

In a junior middleweight bout on the seven bout undercard at Westchester County Center in White Plains, New York, Tommy 'The Razor' Rainone and James 'Shotgun' Winchester fought a six round ugly war marked by repeated fouling by both contestants, including low blows, elbowing, and hitting on the break. Both fighters tried to win and went at till the final bell. Referee Johnny Callas deducted one point from WInchester in the first round for elbowing Rainone as he tried to separate the fighters in the first round. The one point deduction proved costly, as Rainone got a 57-56, 57-56 split decision win via two of the three scorecards. Without the point deduction, the bout would have been a draw. A lot of clinches. The Alexis Mejias versus Ahmed Samir heavyweight bout immediately preceding Rainone versus Winchester also turned after six rounds on a split decision for a point deduction. It should be pointed out the foul by Winchester in the first round was flagrant, and referee Johnny Callas was on the mark and got it right. Callas did a fine job repeatedly separating the fighters and warning them. Judging appeared neutral and fair. Close bout otherwise despite the fouling. Winchester called out Rainone for a rematch after the bout, and had strong words of complaint for the referee over the point deduction. The bout appeared fair, though. Winchester stated after the bout he would accept a rematch later in 2013 with Rainone.
