This bout was originally scheduled ten days earlier at Seattle's Civic Auditorium, until King County Prosecuting Attorney Ewing D. Colvin threatened to invoke state law prohibiting prize-fighting.

The Vancouver Sun felt Morgan won 5-1-4 in rounds, only giving Carter the 8th round. Referee Gil Martin was quoted as saying "Carter stung Morgan repeatedly at close quarters. I figured I was giving champion a break in calling the draw.
