- In the twelfth and decisive round in this world title fight, Usmanee appeared to hit Mendez with a punch which caused Mendez to touch both gloves on the canvas, which would have given him another point in the scoring, a unanimous decision and the world title. However referee Benjy Esteves Jr. ruled it a slip and no knockdown. "I think it was an error. He (referee Benjy Esteves Jr.) didn't see it (the gloves touch the canvas)."
