Boyd Melson 156 lbs beat Jason Thompson 153 lbs by UD in round 8 of 8

Boyd Melson vesus Jason Thompson Junior Middleweight Bout II

  • In a rematch of their controversial six round draw (the first bout in the history of Barclays Center in Brooklyn), Melson and Thompson fought a toe-to-toe war in the main event of a nine bout card at BB King Blues Club & Grill promoted by Lou DiBella Entertainment and 50 Cent SMS Promotions. Melson appeared to land the more effective power and counter power head and body shots for five of the eight rounds, though several of the rounds were close. Thompson came forward with pressure and kept the heat on with effective counters all night, forcing Melson to keep moving side to side and remain with his guard up throughout the contest. Both fighters were bleeding off the corner of the right eye late in the bout, though the cuts did not impede the vision of either fighter. Melson was credited with a knockdown of Thompson in round eight for a 10-8 round, at that moment clearly winning the bout outright which until that point had appeared to be a fairly even contest. Clean bout.
