Bruce was an easy winner according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: "A shivering crowd paid $1,500 to witness the program. Ray Arcel, the noted Eastern handler of fighters, appeared in Olin's corner but he could not guide the ex-champ home a victor. Bruce was a 4 to 10 shot in the betting, but the fans who wagered on him got quite a thrill, besides the heavy end of the dough. The sort of aggressive battle Bruce had in his system last night was by far the best thing he's shown in a Pittsburgh ring since he began fighting for a living. From the start of the bout almost down to the finish, Red was a two-fisted slugger. He bounced right hands off Olin, countered nicely and kept tearing into the good-looking boy from bell to bell. This reporter credited Bruce with six rounds, three to Olin and one even. Judge Jap Williams voted a draw, but Judge Kutzbauer and Referee Al Grayber handed the nod to Bruce. Light-Heavyweight Champion John Henry Lewis watched the bout from a seat in the fourth row and helped root home his stable-mate."
