Bell lost the 10th round, on a low blow, a round the Philadelphia Inquirer felt that he won. After winning the first round, Bell was outhustled by Gavilan in four of the next five rounds. Bell rallied to take the 7th and 8th rounds by large margins, scoring with rights to the head. Bell also appeared to win the 9th, as Gavilan's left eye began to close. The 10th round was slower, but Bell maintained the advantage.
Odds: Gavilan 7-to-5 underdog.
