Porter was aggressive and came forward for most of the fight throwing quick hooks to the body and head.

This proved to be a successful plan as Alexander could not match Porter's physical strength. Although Alexander used his jab to keep Porter off balance in some rounds and threw counter punches to make the fight competitive at times. There was a lot of holding by both fighters on the inside but Porter never lost control of the fight to win by unanimous decision and captured the IBF Welterweight Title.

This fight would see a decline in Alexander’s career as he would go 2-7-1 in his next 10 fights.
