  • Open cut Mike Perez sustained from an accidental headbutt from Takam in the third round was wide open on the right eyebrow all the way across. The bout, had Perez been unable to continue, would have been declared a No-Contest. Perez' trainer and corner cutman Abel Sanchez did a fine job at dealing with the cut, stopping the bleeding.
  • On the televised Home Box Office undercard to the all-Canada NABF Jean Pascal versus Lucian Bute 12 round bout at Bell Centre, underdog Carlos Takam, a heavyweight from Cameroon fighting out of France, boxed a hard fought draw with Cuban defector Mike Perez of Cork, Ireland. In a prelude to trainer Abel Sanchez' upcoming WBA World Middleweight title bout with his fighter Gennady Golovkin versus Osumanu Adama, Sanchez fighter Perez won the first five rounds, then appeared to lose the last five rounds. Takam took the fight to Perez in the second half of the bout as the surprising aggressor. Takam, 29-1-1 with 23 knockouts, Noisy-le-Grand, Seine-Saint-Denis, France, landed an astounding 156 power punches which scored to only 125 for the fading Perez, 20-0-1 with 21 knockouts, who suffered a cut over his right eye early in the fight from an accidental headbutt, and was bothered by it in the later rounds. Two judges had the bout even at 95-95 a draw, while a third judge scored it 96-94 for Takam. Canadian scoring appeared neutral and fair for both foreign combatants fighting for the very first time in Canada.
