- The bout was originally scheduled for eight rounds. Light heavyweight Irish Joe Smith Jr. gave a defensive beating to the aging Griffin for all six rounds. Griffin appeared not to be in as good shape as he was in his previous bouts. Grffin merely fought and hung on to survive. Smith appeared to win every round with a good mix of jabs and power shots which backing up Griffin. Smith gave Griffin his best beatings when he trapped Griffin along the ropes. One judge gave Griffin one round.
