Harry Greb 159 lbs beat Mike Gibbons 155 lbs by NWS in round 10 of 10

  • Date: 1919-06-23
  • Location: Forbes Field, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
  • Referee: Edward W Smith

Gibbons spent so much defending himself that he landed comparatively few blows, but those were crisp and to the mark. Gibbons was so well-covered that Greb's blows mostly caught him on the cheekbones.

Greb payed little attention to defense. At long range, Gibbons mainly tried to evade the unrelenting blows sent his way. Inside, he did very well. The first round was even. The second was big for Greb who had Gibbons spitting blood. Greb won a close third round and Gibbons did his best work to win the 4th. Greb won the 5th and 6th and hurt Gibbons with a vicious left in the latter round. The 7th was slow, with Gibbons getting a shade. He also took the 8th and Greb finished up fast and took the last two rounds.

The Pittsburgh Post gave it to Greb 6-3-1. The Pittsburgh Gazette-Times scored for Greb 6-2-2.
