The Enquirer called the bout a draw. The Enquirer felt that Smith had the advantage when the two men stood toe-to-toe. Smith made Greb's nose bleed early in the contest, while closing Greb's left eye and swelling his face. Smith would have been the winner had he been more aggressive and stepped on the gas in the concluding rounds. Greb landed many looping shots to the head of Smith, without doing apparent damage.

The Post gave their decision to Greb. The Post felt that felt that the number of blow landed by Greb far outnumbered those of Smith, and that "Greb clearly is entitled to the shade."
