- Cuadras cut over left eye from a clash of heads in the eighth round. Wangek was deducted one point for the head butt, thus ruled intentional. Cuadras ruled unable to continue by the ringside doctor, so the championship bout went to the scorecards. Carlos Cuadras was slightly ahead on points with or without the point deduction on three judges' scorecards, so point deduction not a factor in terms of the technical decision.
