Frank De Alba 129 lbs beat Pablo Batres 132 lbs by KO at 1:54 in round 5 of 8

  • De Alba, with height and reach advantage, landed jabs with both hands, but had to contend with stubborn Mexican fighter Badres, who took De Alba's best shots and kept coming. Badres fought his way inside and was willing to pay the price, getting hit hard and landing some counters. In the fifth, Badres got hit with a liver shot which appeared a legal blow on the belt line, and got countered out on a knee. Badres signaled low blow, At least one reporter wrote the knockout blow was low. However at ringside the knockout blow appeared on the beltline. Badres was unhurt. To his credit, Badres came in prepared and tried to win, a far better fighter than his record indicated.
  • Asked what he thought of Badres after the bout, De Alba stated "Tough, tough." Badres was in the house till De Alba broke him down.
