Thomas LaManna 159 lbs beat Jamaal Davis 158 lbs by UD in round 8 of 8
- In the preliminary bout to the main event of a Peltz Promotions card at Bally's Hotel and Casino, unbeaten middleweight prospect Thomas 'Cornflake' LaManna won his biggest test to date, an eight round unanimous decision over experienced veteran Jamaal Davis, but it wasn't easy. The bout was closer than scoring indicated.
- LaManna allowed the shorter Davis to take the fight to the inside and set the tempo for the first three rounds. Surprisingly, LaManna staggered Davis with power and outworked him at his own game on the inside. In round four, and rounds six, seven and eight, LaManna jabbed from the outside and kept a frustrated Davis out of range. Davis did win the sixth, getting inside with effective body shots, causing LaManna to cover on the ropes and give the round away. Davis perhaps could have also won the cautious first round. Like Mike Jones in the main event bout which followed, Davis greatly underestimated LaManna's skills, fighting his fight for the first three rounds, but eventually getting outworked, and once his opponent took control, getting blasted with power shots and winding up in a life and death struggle to survive. Davis took a bad beating but at least survived. Jones didn't.
