• 16-0 Michigan cruiserweight Shimmell was winning the fight with body shots and right hooks to the head and body of Mendoza which scored.
• Mendoza was penalized one point for repeatedly hitting off the break, and continued to do so. Mendoza was also throwing low blows, as well as punching Shimmell behind the head and punching his back, knees and butt. After warning Mendoza repeatedly to stop fouling with cheap shots, and Mendoza continuing to do so, the referee disqualified Mendoza in the fourth round.[[1]] Shimmell won every round over aging Mendoza.
