Rafael Vazquez 123 lbs beat Derrick Wilson 123 lbs by TKO at 1:20 in round 5 of 8

  • In the 'Fight of the night' at B.B. King Blues Club & Grill, Both Vazquez and Wilson traded power shot bombed for three rounds. Wilson went down on the seat of his pants from a Vazquez power shot near the bell ending round three, and beat the count. Late in the fourth round, Wilson landed a series of power shot combinations to the head and body which sent the World Boxing Association's number nine worldwide ranked contender to the canvas. Wilson raised his hands in victory, and referee Sammy Viruet reached the count of eight before Vazquez got up. Vazquez then fought for his life with Wilson till the bell ended the round. As the fifth round began, Wilson attacked Vazquez and punched himself out trying to knock Vazquez out. Vazquez, landing power shots meticulous and precise, cut off the ring and attacked Wilson in a corner, where he finished him in a great comeback. Standing ovation for Vazquez, who looked all but gone.
