Stanley Ketchel 159 lbs lost to Frank Klaus 157 lbs by NWS in round 6 of 6

  • Date: 1910-03-23
  • Location: Duquesne Gardens, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
  • Referee: Jack McGuigan

" The March 24, 1910 issue of the Pittsburgh Gazette Times stated, In the six rounds of activity in the ring Klaus had the better of the champion in every round with the possible exception of the second, when he at least held his own. There is no denying that Klaus tried all the journey, but Ketchel was either "stalling" or was lacking in condition."

"Stanley Ketchel, the middleweight champion of the world, did well to win a popular approval of a draw in his six-round bout tonight with Frank Klaus, a local boy, before the largest audience ever gathered together under the auspices of the Pittsburg National Sporting Club. For the first three rounds Klause led without return by Ketchel. The last three periods were slow and uninteresting. Klaus was strong at the end, while Ketchel was evidently unconditioned even for such a short distance." (Washington Post)

Another view was that Ketchel had deliberately stalled throughout the fight. [1]
