Rosey Stoy beat Benny Bass by NWS in round 8 of 8

  • Date: 1922-10-30
  • Location: Western Market House, Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA
  • Referee: Joe Hanrahan

Lancaster New Era

The New Era favored Stoy, giving him three rounds, with five even. Stoy landed a hard right hand to Bass' left eye a minute into the 1st round, which led to swelling. There was little action until the 7th round, when Stoy came out aggressively and sent Bass reeling to the ropes with a left hand to the jaw. Stoy was also the aggressor in the 8th round, and again had Bass wobbly.

Lancaster Daily Intelligencer

The Daily Intelligencer favored Stoy, citing three foul blows struck by Bass in the 6th round, and Stoy's edge in the last two rounds, which they felt featured the only two real rounds of hitting. The Intelligencer felt that the referee would have been justified in disqualifying Bass in the 6th round for the three low blows.

Lancaster News Journal

The News Journal didn't clearly give a winner, but felt the two stalled for seven rounds, before they opened up in the last round.
