Root had an edge in the first eight rounds of the bout, but began to tire noticeably in the 9th round. Kabakoff battered him in the 10th, and dropped him in the 11th. Root staved off a knockout in the next three rounds by holding, however, Kabakoff finally caught up and put him away in the final round.
