  • In a Showtime power shot slugfest, Super Lightweight Amir Imam remained undefeated with a fifth round stoppage of Fidel Maldonado. At a pace reminiscent of George Foreman versus Ron Lyle, Imam landed 69 power shots, Maldonado landed 67 in the brief contest. Maldonado was game in the trading of the bombs, and often gestured so. His difficulty was not in his willingness to exchange, but being unable to overcome Imam's height and reach advantage. Imam knocked down Maldonado in the second, twice in the third and again in the fifth round. Maldonado knocked down Imam in the second. In the fifth round, Imam changed moving tactics around the ring, and switched to settling on the ropes, baiting Maldonado to come inside and go to war. Maldonado obliged, and eventually got knocked down and did a 360 on the canvas, winding up on his knees where he took the count. Referee Robert Byrd stopped it as he arose.
