- After several competitive rounds, won by Fonfara, at that point Fonfara found his range, used short power punches to the head of Chavez thrown in combinations, and broke him down. Fonfara dropped Chavez in the ninth round, Chavez quit on his stool after the round ended, and was unwilling and unable to continue after taking a huge beating. Not a close bout. Fonfara lost a point in round seven for a rough shoulder bump, probably to prevent Chavez from continuing to drive into him with his forehead.
