Calhoun who fought with a badly swollen left eye, from the 4th round, led all the way. In the 8th round, Calhoun staggered Salas with a right to the head. At the start of the 9th round, Salas was wobbled again by another right hand, which led referee Roth to stop the bout. This was the only time Salas was stopped in his long career.
