Antoine Douglas 160 lbs beat Thomas LaManna 158 lbs by TKO at 2:44 in round 6 of 10

  • In the main event of an eight bout card broadcast in two parts SportsNet New York and Showtime ShoBox The Next Generation, Omar Douglas soundly dismantled the taller Thomas Lamanna in a battle of unbeaten middleweight prospects. Douglas came forward with pressure and power, keeping the somewhat awkward Lamanna in retreat.
  • Lamanna had a a fair chance, but the bout was lost in the Lamanna corner. Lamanna had no game plan and his corner was completely silent the entire bout.
  • The loud Douglas corner kept Douglas punching consistently and often. Lananna caught Douglas a few times coming forward with his left jab, but was unable to exploit the weakness, or use his size to smother Douglas and consistently tie him up as he should have. Successfully getting inside on Lamanna, Douglas eventually broke Lamanna down. In the sixth round, Lamanna took a knee for a flash knockdown without getting hit, could have been a slip, ruled a knockdown. Getting up, Lamanna landed a solid shot which knocked out the mouthpiece of Douglas. However, Douglas, not moving in the same manner of Gennady Golovkin versus Daniel Geale, countered by decking Lamanna on his back. Lamanna got up. Referee Harvey Dock, ignoring the blue mouthpiece of Douglas on the canvas, allowed the tempo of the bout to continue, with Douglas finishing Lamanna in center ring-down and out-with a chopping right to the head. Douglas had superior hand speed and power and used his abilities to get to Lamanna, who had some power but did not use his superior size, strength and reach assets to his advantage as he should have done, fought the bout incorrectly in retreat, and who got no support from his own corner.
