Chmielewski was knocked down for a nine-count in the 3rd round. He retired on his stool at the end of the 8th round, due to an eye injury. Henry was "far ahead at the end of the eighth..He had given Welch a two-fisted lacing most of the way..(However)..Welch looked better than in the eighth than in any other round."
