It was announced prior to the bout, that this was to be Loughran's final bout in his hometown of Philadelphia. Loughran's manager Joe Smith, had announced that Loughran intended to continue fighting until the later months of 1937, with a tour of California, Australia, South Africa, and England. Loughran never fought again, however.
