• After having dominated the fight over the first four rounds, Vasquez is caught off guard by a Avelar left hook moments into round 5, knocking him to the canvas. He rises quickly and takes the referees count.
• Applying pressure on Vasquez after the knockdown, Avelar is caught flush with a hard right hand counter punch that sends him crashing face first to the canvas through the lower ropes. He rises, clearly hurt worse than Vasquez was after the initial knockdown.
• Avelar is battered with flush power punches to the head, trapped along the ropes much of the time, for the remainder of the fifth round.
• Avelar surges back, after having absorbed dozens of flush power punches over the first seven rounds, to send Vasquez reeling to the canvas early in the eighth with a jolting straight right-left hook combination. Vasquez struggles to rise and beat the count, and he is visibly hurt. Bout waved off after the referee inspects a shaky Vasquez moments after he rises.
