Vigil refused to come out for the 9th round, claiming a foul from low blows. Vigil was knocked down twice in the 1st round, both for nine counts, on a left hook and later a right hand. Vigil's manager Pete Reilly started kicking Scalzo in an attempt to show where he felt the low blows had landed. Referee Charley Randolph was attacked by a couple of irate fans, as he was punched a couple times and had his shirt ripped off.
