Samuel Clarkson 177 lbs beat Lavarn Harvell 177 lbs by TKO at 0:48 in round 2 of 8

  • [[1]] Clarkson knocks out Harvell, Showtime highlights on YouTube.
  • A predictable outcome with rising world ranked top 25 light heavyweight Samuel Clarkson exposing the pretender Harvell. Clarkson decked Harvell twice in the first round, then finished him in the second round with a power punch left right combination along the ropes, landing a left hand coup-de-gras to the face of Harvell as he fell backwards, ending the bout. Towel thrown into the ring by Harvell's corner at that point.
  • Harvell lost to one 5-10 Edgar Perez in 2014, whose only win in his last 16 bouts was an impressive victory in a six rounder over Harvell, decking him twice. One year later, the inactive Harvell returned and won a four rounder over Perez, who was still good enough to win rounds on two of the scorecards! Harvell then knocked out 3-10 Quincy Miner in the first round, a fighter winless in his previous nine bouts.
  • Clarkson came off the canvas to win an eight round decision over top 175 pound contender Cedric Agnew to enter the world rankings, then knocked out rising prospect Jerry Odom, then Harvell. Agnew had fought Sergey Kovalev for the World Light Heavyweight title in his previous bout. GH3 Promotions, which handled Odom and Harvell, went double or nothing (after Odom lost) by going after Clarkson again, and came up empty on ShoBox. Ronson Frank and his Uprising Promotions made their best success to this point by signing Clarkson, who recorded these key victories and moved towards a world title shot all of a sudden.
  • Oddly, this was the second time GH3 Promotions accepted a televised bout with one of their top prospects versus Clarkson in which both fighters did not make weight. Clarkson versus Harvell went off at cruiserweight, with both fighters weighing in over the light heavyweight limit at 177 pounds. Odom, a super middleweight, wound up fighting Clarkson at light heavyweight and getting knocked out. Clarkson did not make weight both times, but neither did the GH3 fighters, giving power hitter Clarkson the edge as GH3 allowed the televised bouts to take place anyway.
