Although Colon is breathing on his own, but he remains in a coma since losing consciousness in this bout after round nine. In November 2015 he was moved to Shepherd Center, a hospital in Atlanta that specializes in treatment for those with brain and spinal cord injuries. Colon's corner inadvertently took his gloves off one round early, getting him disqualified but saving his life. He would have collapsed during round 10 if the bout had continued without the corner glove error. His prognosis for recovery, as of 2016, is unknown but he is still alive.
