2015-11-14: Steve Suppan wins over Teodor Stefanov on points (60-54) after 6 rounds

In the former factory "De Besturing" it's a tradition that the well known boxing club "Haagse Directe" from the Hague, organises a boxing event that after the last bout changes smoothly in a dance event. It's called Food Fight Music All Night and it's garanteed to have a lively atmosphere. This edition was no exception.

This bout was the last fight of the evening. Both boxers had a similar physique, showing good conditioning of their bodies. Teodor Stefanov was a bit shorter but made this up for being a bit more muscular than Steve Suppan. Both were the same age (21) but Stefanov had more pro fights under his belt. Having lost his last fights out of his country Bulgaria, he wasn't planning on doing so now.

The first round showed two cautious boxers, trying to measure each other. Suppan took the center of the ring and during most of the fight, he stayed there with the Bulgarian at the outside. There weren't many combinations, both boxers went for single shots, or one-two's. Suppan was the more active and Stefanov was lucky that a hard right only shaved his head.

In the second round Suppan threw a few overhand rights, but they didn't connect. He was the more dangerous man but Stefanov was able to move away most of the time, in the meantime looking for opportunities of his own. He couldn't get close to Suppan however and had to settle for a defensive role.

In the third round Suppan started with a nice liver shot but Stefanov was able to move away before more harm was done. He became more jumpy, he swinged a left hook and simultaniously jumped toward Suppan. The hook didn't connect and Stefanov continued his movement with a clinch. It was quite effective to smother Suppan and Stefanov made this move his trademark move for the rest of the rounds. Suppan was able to land his jab and some right hands and took this round. (as well as all the other rounds as the result showes)

The fourth and fith round were more or less the same. It was Suppan who was more active with Stefanov on the defense and with only his jump-hook-clinch as an offensive weapon. Suppan caught him with a good liver shot that hurt him. After another punch Stefanov fell to the floor but it was correctly ruled a slip. Both rounds clearly for Suppan.

In the sixt round, Stefanov tried to gain the upperhand and had more variation. It was a shortlived effort though as he was not able to unsettle Suppan. In the various exchanges of punches, it were the punches from Suppan that hit the target the most. Stefanov returned to his countering style but in this match Suppan was the better boxer.

After this final round, the referee declared Suppan winner on points and gave him all the rounds. The audience had the same opinion and applauded for both boxers of this final fight.
